Phasers

Table of contents of this topic

Phasers are the effects and chasers of grandMA3.

Phasers change the output for attributes using a set of information in two or more steps. Normally a cue or preset only contains one step of information. As soon as there is more than one, then it is a phaser.

Each step can have information about attribute values. These values can be an Absolute value, for instance, a dimmer value of 50%, or it can be a Relative value, for instance, a dimmer value of -20%.

Steps also contain information related to the transition between steps. These values can easily be accessed using the Encoder Toolbar. The information is organized in different programming layers, each having its own button in the encoder toolbar. Selecting one of these layers makes it possible to use the encoders to manipulate the value. Phaser layers are indicated by a dark purple color.

Some of the programming layers are different for each step, others are the same for all steps. For instance, Speed. The speed value is set for each attribute, but it is the same for all steps in each Phaser.

Phasers' values are changes like any programmer value - see Operate Fixtures topic. The Phaser Editor gives a nice graphical overview and allows easy value manipulation. Read more about phaser and how to create them in the Phaser Editor topic.

Example

A phaser has two steps with an Absolute dimmer value of 100% in step 1 and an Absolute dimmer value of 0% in step number 2. The result is the fixtures change the dimmer output between 100% and 0% output. The default speed is 60 BPM and the output does a fade between the two steps.

Use Phasers in Cues

Phaser information can be stored in cues.

Phasers can be active values in the programmer and when a cue is stored, then these values are also stored in the cue.

It can be a really good idea to have the phaser values coming from presets but it is possible to create a phaser in the programmer and simply store it in a cue.

When an attribute is given a new value in a future cue, then the phaser stops.

Stomp

The stomp function can be used to stop a running phaser. The current values for the stomped fixtures are put in the programmer as absolute values. These programmer values can be stored or released from the programmer.

Auto Stomp

Sequences have an auto stomp function in the settings. This function allows other sequences to stop running phasers in a sequence. It does not take any values into the programmer.
